Biography

Captain Sungjoon Carlson, PA-C, MBA is a Board-Certified Physician Associate with 5 to 10 years of clinical experience. He received his MPAS from Indiana University and joined the United States Air Force Reserve shortly thereafter. His broader interests span global health, international business, and leadership development.

Clinically, his interests lie at the intersection of surgical and emergency medicine, with a particular attention on abdominal solid organ transplantation and oncology, including emerging therapeutic approaches in cancer treatment. On weekends, he works to deepen his understanding of the PA’s role in aviation and flight medicine at Travis Air Force Base in California. Beyond medicine, Sungjoon has a passion for business and finance. He has had the opportunity to collaborate with international organizations to better understand the influence of micro and macroeconomics on the global stage

Within the military, Sungjoon is focused on strengthening the connection between the Reserve and National Guard components and the larger Active Duty Air Force. He believes that bridging this gap is essential to building a more cohesive, capable, and well-supported military medical community.

When he is not at work, Sungjoon enjoys spending time with his nieces, nephews, and his dog Luna, exploring the natural beauty around Lake Tahoe and beyond. He is also actively training for his first Ironman triathlon.
