About SAFPA

The Society of Air Force Physician Assistants (SAFPA) was established in April 1974, with Lawrence “Larry” Russell being the first President.

Since June 1974, the SAFPA has served as an official constituent chapter of the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA), supporting the growth, excellence, and recognition of Air Force PAs across the Total Force—active duty, Guard, Reserve, and retired members.

At its core, SAFPA exists to strengthen the Air Force PA profession and support the people who serve within it.

SAFPA was established to promote the professional growth, personal excellence, and recognition of Air Force PAs through education, professional development, scientific advancement, advocacy, and opportunities for connection.

We strive to support Air Force PAs throughout their careers while helping ensure that they remain prepared to provide high-quality, accessible, and cost-effective care to the patients and communities they serve.

To promote quality, cost-effective, and accessible health care and to promote the professional and personal development of Air Force physician assistants.

To serve the needs of active duty, retired, guard, and reserve Air Force physician assistants.
